So, the exciting news is that the Phillies won the World Series! I'm not a huge baseball fan, but it is nice to see a Philadelphia team finally win a championship, regardless of the sport. (Now, if those Eagles would just win a Super Bowl ...).
Today was our school field trip to Weaver's Orchard. It's my favorite field trip of the year. We took a tour of the orchard & saw how cider was made (and got to taste test it, too!) We got to go on a hay ride, play around in a straw castle (ok, ok - I stood outside & watched them) and even got to pick our own apples and pumpkins. The kids had a blast, and their teacher did, too. It was so nice to be able to just enjoy my students. It's refreshing to be able to spend time with them outside of the school setting. They still had to follow all the rules, but they also got the chance to be more kid than student, if that makes sense. I, in turn, got the chance to see more kid than student, and I loved it. They're my students, yes, but they're also their own little people, just starting to come into their own. They each have their own unique personality, their likes and dislikes, and this is the age where that really starts to come out.
Being able to interact with them in a little less structured (and more fun!) environment is a gift that I hold dear to my heart. Seeing them smile and laugh made me smile and laugh. Even if it was just for a day, I got to be a kid again.
